Two graduates from STI College Ormoc earned recognition from Exist SoftwareLabs, Inc, a local software engineering company which recently held an intensive training program to some 300 fresh graduates.
Wendell Acre and Marjun Pagalan, BS Computer Science graduates of STI COllege Ormoc represented their school to the Exist Code Camp(ECC), a 6-week intensive training program for selected newly graduates. Both graduated during the school-year 2005-2006.
Acre amd Pagalan joined graduates from known and prestigious universities such as Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, De la Salle University, Lyceum, Mapua Institute of Technology, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and the University of the Philippines.
To qualify for the ECC Training, applicants were required to take an exam on logic and basic programming. An applicant's college performance has also been a factor in the selection process.
The ECC training was divided into 3 parts. Part 1 is the training on the fundamentals.
After which, the ECC committee selects who shall stay for the succeeding parts. Part 2 is the training on open source technologies. The last part(Part 3) is composed of a project where code campers shall apply everything that they learned from ECC.
Both Acre and Pagalan fared well all throughout the ECC Training with Acre's team even besting other training participants during a competition that concluded the program. Acre placed second during such competition.
After the cometition, Pagalan he was hired by Exist for the skills he displayed during the training program.
ECC aims to develop young software developers who are equipped with critical skills needed to participate in the open source community. The participants went through rigorous trainings and a series of lectures and exercises facilitated by software developers.
Exist Softwarelabs is a Filipino-owned software engineering company which supports open source technology. The company specializes in providing Global Smartsourcing services.
